Makes the World Go ‘round

“Can you come in for the rush?”
“Can you please stay late and do the clean?”

Of course, I’m foreign so I need this job desperately, and “temporarily”, I say, when I take it three years ago.

For a while I’m ashamed of working in fast food, but my friend - from the same home country - cheers me up and says: Pizza makes the world 'go ‘round.

“There’s this thing on Friday after lectures, wanna come?”

I’d love to, you know, but Fridays are very busy. I probably have to work late.

It’s okay dough, ‘cause pizza makes the world go ‘round.

In the meantime, we were “essential workers” for minimum wage, as disposable as the masks that made it so that I didn’t know my co-workers faces for months.

“Oh, you’re a manager now? Looks like anyone can become one these days”

Thanks.

“Oh, you’re a they now? I’ll probably mess that up”

Thanks.

What days am I free next week? Not sure, I’ll have to see what the rota says. I’ll clock out now but I’ll be back tomorrow, cause pizza makes the world go ‘round.
