Cider School
On Monday the 10th of June, Ross-on-Wye Cider and Perry Company are hosting a Cider School on their farm, for bartenders and retailers to learn about cider. From production, to tasting, to being in the orchards, seeing how it is made, and getting to understand who it is made by.
Good drinks industry training goes a long way and investing in staff is priceless, opportunities like this will give them more incentive to invest in their own work. Pushing selling products beyond just basic customer service, by uplifting staff, and giving them the tools they need to be successful.
So an event like this is a huge moment and opportunity, for both the cider and hospitality industries. It has the chance of building an invaluable connection between the two; solidifying the foundations needed for full juice cider and perry to thrive. With the right support and demand, this event could really revolutionise the selling of cider and perry direct to consumers.
“There is much confusion regarding cider from within and without, so cider school aims to bring some clarity for those serving and working with this wonderful drink made from apples.” Tom Oliver of Olivers Cider
There will be an orchard walk with Albert from Ross, learning about Herefordshire’s position within the world of cider. James at Little Pomona, and Tom from Olivers will be pulling pints, and expanding on draught dispense options. A session on selling by the bottle with Gabe Cook. And the opportunity to talk to the makers about their work.
“There's never been a better time in history to be a cider drinker or seller. So many great producers in every nook and cranny of the UK now, tons of positive media coverage and a growing warmth and interest towards the drink from consumers and retailers alike make it a drink more compelling than ever.” say James and Susanna of Little Pomona.
“At Cider School we are hoping we think we can demonstrate how and why cider deserves a greater share of space on UK drinks lists”
The outcomes of this event only have positives for the makers and anyone in attendance, it will be pivotal for changing the way that drinks professionals think about cider and perry.
This is just the beginning.
